Substitution of Players

Rolling subs apply.

Note: Unlimited substitutions are allowed. Any number of players can be changed any number of times during the course of the match.

Match Referee

The home team will supply the referee for the first half. The home team is the first named team in the draw.

The referee will toss a coin with the two teams. The team that wins the toss decides which way they want to play. The other team takes the kick off to start the match.

It is the responsibility of the referee to ensure that all players are wearing shin guards and that no items that may be of danger to themselves or opponents.

Only the referee and the players are allowed on the field. All coaching must take place from the sideline only. It is the responsibility of the referee to ensure that there are no spectators or coaches within 5 metres of the goal while the game is in progress (local Wairarapa tradition that if both coaches agree then both coaches may be on the pitch for 8th grade and under).

Goal Advantage (6 - 9th Grade only)

When a team is ahead by 8 (eight) goals e.g., 9-1 or 11-3, the game is to be stopped. The teams are then reformed by mixing players of both sides to form two balanced teams for the remainder of the playing time.

Free Kicks (6 - 9th Grade only)

All free kicks in these age groups are indirect. There are no penalty kicks. All opponents must be at least 7 metres from the ball. Normal Rules of the Game apply to the other age groups.

Goal Kicks (6 - 9th Grade only)

In the 6/7/8/9th Grades attackers must retire to halfway for a goal kick. Defenders can stay inside the goal area. Normal Rules of the Game apply for other age groups.

Corner Kicks (6 - 13th Grade inclusive)

Corner kicks in all these grades will be taken 5 metres from the point where the goal line meets the penalty area (closer to the corner than thegoal)

Off sides

There are no off sides for 6 - 9th Grades inclusive, however offside play is to be actively discouraged. If any player frequently stands between the last defender and the goal (sea gulling) then the referee will stop the game, inform the player and coach that this is not within the spirit of the game, and award a free kick.

Normal Rules of the game apply for other age groups.

Cancellations

The two coaches may agree to abandon a game if adverse weather conditions should prevail, taking into consideration the comfort and safety of the players

These rules were copied from the capital soccer web site on Saturday, 11 June 2005.  Please remember that all games should be played in a sporting manner and friendly attitude to the opposing side is to be encouraged both among the team and parents.
